In this course, you will learn how to achieve more consistent and creative results with returns effects.
In this course, we will look at effective methods to maximize the number of additional sending and returning tracks, as well as to expand the standard mixing processes and creative approach, allowing you to maximize the use of return channels.

In this first video, we will look at one of the most common uses for backtracking tracks — adding reverb. This is not a guide to what reverb is. Here I want to show how I use several reverbs to achieve results.
Most of the reverb chains that I will use use hybrid tuning, using a combination of convolutional and algorithmic reverb. In this way, I can use the best of what both methods offer, and truly shape the result of the reverb.
The first example we’ll look at is the setup that I use for my drum mix.
Reverb Series Part 2 :
In the second video on the use of reverb, I’m going to show its use on the lead sound, thanks to which it sounds quite loud and pompous. I use a combination of plate reverberation and reverb simulation in the hall.
Reverb Series Part 3 :
In the final video, I want to create a reverb with a special effect that can be adjusted depending on the needs of what is happening in the mix, but if necessary, the effect can be quite epic.
Harmonic Distortion Control Part 1 :
In the next 3 videos, we will look at the use of distortion in return tracks. Distortion and its various forms are usually associated with use as an insert on individual instruments. Note that return tracks often come from many sources. Having the add option has subtle or extreme control when adding additional harmonics to the sounds, and the effects can really add strength and excitement to the mix.
In the first example, let’s see how I use it myself on the return tracks. I will set up different types of distortion and see what they add.

In the following example, I’m going to show how distortion can add more energy and excitement to your existing chains of inverse effects.
Harmonic Distortion Control Part 3 :
In the last example using distortion, I will consider adding some analogue character to the return channels. Often what people associate with analog sound is actually some form of distortion. Think about devices like the Roland Space Echo, or dynamic processors such as the Urei 1176 or Fairchilds tube compressors or various vintage preamps in which character and warmth often appear due to thin saturation or distortion.
Dynamic return control Part 1 :
In this video, we will look at adding compression to our drum mix reverb to get the thrill and control of where the energy is concentrated. Also considered de-esser and expander.
Dynamic return control Part 2 :
In this video, we will look at the classic reverb gateway effect. Once we cover the basics, we will go further to see how this technique can be used to add a more integrated and interactive layer of sound to the mix.
Dynamic return control Part 3 :
Dynamic control is not compression and gating. In this video, we will look at Max for Live device Expression Control to use the dynamics of the original sound to affect the tuning track that it processes.
