Description: Unique, inspiring sounds from an Oscar-nominated composer
This versatile instrumentation was developed in collaboration with Oscar-nominated world-famous composer and sound engineer Volker Bertelmann (Haionchka (Lion, Adrift)) and created to give your notes incredible depth, intensity and texture. Discover unique soundscapes ranging from the industrial sound of percussive rhythms and thunderous basses to unusual, atonal plucks and beautiful, shimmering pads. Performed on the epic Steinway with over 40 experimental preparations and expert multisampling at the legendary Voxton Studios in Berlin, we’ve turned Hauschka’s signature sound palette into an interactive and inspiring instrument, ready to show off your own creative ideas. Featured in our sophisticated Evo Grid and Mercury synths, mix and match multiple waveforms from Pedal Delay FX, Distorted, Modular to Binson Echorec, or choose from 50 presets created by the Spitfire team for endless combinations of instantly reproducible sounds.
Our collective goal was to capture the world of sound and the creative spirit of a true innovator, based on Volker Bertelmann’s 30 years of experience as a pianist and Oscar-nominated composer. With Spitfire’s sampling expertise, the finest recording gear and groundbreaking Evo Grid technology, we give you access to a unique set of cutting-edge sounds designed and engineered for sound engineers, allowing you to create your own new instruments. Hauschka’s idea was to give anyone the opportunity to collaborate with him and his ideas: “Creative exchange is essential. If you don’t have it as an artist, you’re in a very boring place. I always try to work with people who take me to new territories.”
The legendary Berlin Vox Ton Studios (where we recorded our famous Olafur Arnalds Evolutions library) is the recording venue for some of Europe’s most famous composers, from Johann Johannsson to Dustin O’Halloran. Each sound was professionally recorded by the Spitfire team, led by producer Harry Wilson, with Vox Ton engineer and longtime Hauschka collaborator Francesco Donadello, who was instrumental in setting up each sound. Although played on a traditional Steinway D grand piano, most of the sounds are far from the original instrument.
Description
From concept to recording, we have worked closely, refining and expanding on the tried and tested equipment used in his existing work, recording both single notes and rhythmic performances. Hauschka’s approach to writing and sampling is “accident mixed with intent”: a ride into the unknown. With that in mind, we’ve provided plenty of room for experimentation during the recording process by taking the piano to places it’s never been before.
Hauschka’s signature, multifaceted sound is born from his endless fascination with the interplay between existing instruments and other materials and textures. Inspired by the sounds of nature, Hauschka’s sounds are chaotic, unpredictable and never repeated twice: from harsh and noisy to melodic and spine-tingling, the combination of which creates compelling results, unlike the minimalism of his predecessors.
The Hauschka Composer Toolkit is unlike any other piano as each pre-made sample is available as an organic sound, and multiple waveform options give you extra control to drastically change the sound of each sample. Use Francesco’s modular setup effects, Hauschka pedals, Spitfire distortion and Binson Echorec (recording delay made famous by Pink Floyd in the 70s)
The library is divided into six sections, four of which are featured in the Evo Grids: Plug Hits, Plug Rhythms, Pad Sounds, Pad Hits, Swells, and Drum Kits. Each one is different in sound – from rhythmic hits to thunderous basses, from sustained notes to atonal beats – but they are designed to complement each other when combined. We also give you 50 presets created by the Spitfire team for extra inspiration. Plug Rhythms are created by playing rhythms as objects such as tea lights and ping pong balls bounce or bounce off the strings, creating dynamic layered textures. Other items used range from a reed saxophone to toy drums, from tambourines to an old tape recorder, and from light filters to wooden pegs, creating a huge range of new instruments. Both the Evo Grid layers and multiple signal options give you endless possibilities for every sound, with different results for every user.
Our interactive and intuitive technologist Evo Grid makes this library so much more than just a collection of samples – various editable parameters allow for deep customization, and each setting gives you the tools to create your own unique piano. Our bespoke, comprehensive Grid user interface positions pins across an 11 x 12 screen grid with access to records at 12 intervals. Instantly choose which sound is in each of these 12 tonal ranges, or explore endless possible combinations with built-in randomization features.
This tool is for any avant-garde-inspired composer or any sound engineer looking to explore new sonic territories – perfect for creating texture layers, creating tension and adding surprise to any composition. Sounds can be applied to a wide range of compositions, from electronic music to orchestral scores. With over 40 original presets, 50 master presets and 16,000 samples, you have access to almost endless combinations of thousands of sounds and a whole new world of inspiration.
